In order to build a successful SEO strategy, it’s important to make sure you’re executing your campaign correctly. This is where webinomy comes in – an app that helps measure the ROI of every marketing channel so you can confidently increase your budget and improve performance. Here we showcase how one business used Webinomy for their ongoing success.
The “6 month seo plan” is a strategy that was used to build an SEO foundation and ongoing strategy. Webinomy was used for this project.
As most SEOs are aware, the opportunity to build and execute an SEO strategy for a fresh new website is quite uncommon. You usually inherit a website, and it’s one that wasn’t developed with a good SEO base in mind. Finally, a large portion of your effort will be spent overhauling optimizations and generally clearing up faults accumulated over time.
Fortunately for Liquid, we were just selected to participate in the 2019 Wix SEO Competition as the Wix SEO Haters, and were therefore granted the chance to start from the ground up.
While we were apprehensive to enter a competition like this after seeing this tweet from John Mueller:
We viewed this as a chance to try out new strategies while also teaching customers and others the value of a well-thought-out SEO, ongoing content production, and link-building strategy.
We were confident in our abilities to perform well and (hopefully) win the contest because of our team’s knowledge in a variety of digital marketing sectors paired with the toolbox SEMrush provides.
SEMrush has been a positive experience for us.
For years, we’ve relied on SEMrush as our go-to tool. In a market crowded with SEO tools, we believe SEMrush’s features outperform those of its rivals.
In my perspective, they have a distinct edge in their unwavering dedication to innovation. Not only are they constantly upgrading their products, but they’ve also branched out into areas like Content Marketing, Local SEO, Social Media, PPC, and more. SEMrush advances in lockstep with the SEO and digital marketing industries, ensuring that its users and businesses remain ahead of the curve.
Magic Tool Keyword
As every SEO has most likely drilled into their heads by now, any project or initiative should start with keyword research. For the Wix SEO competition, we started with the Magic Tool Keyword.
The Magic Tool Keyword enabled us to find and develop a master list of keywords, semantically related long-tail keywords, and the top questions being asked regarding our topic. To start, simply insert a keyword or phrase into the search bar and click the “search” button.
From a database of over 16 billion keywords, SEMrush then generates a table with similar search terms divided down into topic-specific subgroups.
This one search for “Wix SEO” not only gave us with hundreds of relevant keywords and subjects, but it also enabled us to broaden our study into some of the more popular and connected topics.
For example, you can see that there is a lot of interest in Wix vs. WordPress in the screenshot below. So we ran a wide match search for “Wix WordPress” to broaden the scope of that subject.
Whether you’re redesigning metadata or discovering potential for content development, like we did here, this tool enables you to do extensive study.
In addition to discovering topics through the Magic Tool Keyword, SEMrush also offers an extremely helpful Topic Exploration tool.
This application lends a hand to content writers and marketers in their brainstorming endeavors. Simply type a topic into the search field, and it will return a list of relevant subtopics, top articles on the subject, and content suggestions. We utilize this tool to create anything from fresh headlines to new blog subject ideas, as well as exceed rivals’ techniques.
We discovered top queries being asked by using the program to search for “Wix” related subjects, such as “Is Wix SEO Free?” and “Is Wix OK for SEO?” This information aided in the development of our website’s content and FAQ area. We also uncovered additional, wider themes about how to boost your SEO on a Wix website that needed to be expanded out. As a result, we created a detailed SEO tutorial for Wix.
Both the Keyword Magic and Topic Exploration tools help reduce the amount of time you waste just spitballing ideas for new content – and helps to ensure that the content you are going to spend time creating will land.
Tracking your location
The Tracking your location tool from SEMrush lets you track a website’s daily rankings for the keywords you choose. You can set your targeting for any specific geographic location and any device type (mobile phone, tablet, or desktop).
We just needed to add one keyword to monitor, rather than hundreds or thousands, since the goal of the competition is to rank first for the phrase “Wix SEO.”
As you can see, despite several big influxes related to algorithm improvements, we have constantly maintained a lead.
As I briefly alluded to, the beauty of the Tracking your location tool is that it is much more comprehensive than its name suggests. Not only can you track your ranking positions, but also, you can track Google algorithm updates, post notes when changes are made, track performance and opportunities for featured snippets, and discover competitors.
This application is much more than simply a scoreboard on the computer. All in one place, you’ll find optimization possibilities and be able to monitor the effect of your efforts and algorithm adjustments.
Audit of the Location
“Content is king,” I say again, if you’ve heard it before.
While this is certainly true, you can’t have a king without a well-built, functioning castle. That is where the Audit of the Location tool comes into play.
The Audit of the Location tool has over 120 checks for SEO issues, ranging from surface level issues such as broken links or duplicate content, and optimizations to deeper issues such as HTML configuration and hreflang tag implementation.
We use the Audit of the Location tool to continuously monitor our site’s health and to identify opportunities to further improve performance.
Tool for Link Building and Brand Monitoring
Link building is an important part of SEO, in addition to content quality and technical health. While link building has been and continues to be a major factor in SEO success, it is often underestimated or ignored due to its difficulty and time commitment.
It’s a lot simpler using SEMrush.
Based on the keywords and rivals you specified, the Link Building tool generates a list of link building chances.
When compared to its rivals, SEMrush’s Link Building tool has a unique feature: it has an easy-to-use outreach option.
To get started, create unique outreach templates for the various sorts of connections. An sample message template for recommending a guest post may be seen below.
Then, under the “In Progress” column, choose a prospect who you feel might welcome guest postings.
SEMrush will extract the website’s social media profiles, contact email addresses, and contact page location automatically. In a nutshell, it provides you with every point of contact you’ll need when it comes to link building.
Simply click the blue “Contact” icon inside SEMrush to send an email. Choose the email template you want to send and who you want to send it to. Don’t worry; you can preview and alter the message as many times as you like before sending it.
When you’re satisfied that it’s ready to send, click the “Send and move on” button.
Select “I have sent it manually” in the bottom right corner if you sent the message manually.
After you send a message, you can follow your link-building efforts in the “Monitor” area, which is a nice feature of this program. This will allow you to keep track of which of the websites you contacted ended up connecting to you. You won’t have to manually check and search through your email to stay on top of things.
The Brand Monitoring tool is another SEMrush tool that enables for successful link building techniques. The Brand Monitoring tool, similar to Google Alerts, allows you to follow brand mentions throughout the web.
One of the simplest methods to gain links is via brand mentions. Simply browse the domain to see if it is a relevant, non-toxic, and practical choice, and then email the website to request that your link be included on the page referencing your business.
Link building may be difficult, complex, and time-consuming, but SEMrush can assist a lot.
We were able to obtain over 800 non-toxic, dofollow backlinks in only a few months using this method, with (hopefully) many more to come.
Audit of Backlinks
Having said that, not all backlinks are made equal. It’s about both quantity and quality.
This tool aids in the avoidance of Google penalties caused by harmful backlinks. You can quickly audit all of your links, examine the harmful scores, write letters to website owners (requesting that they delete your link), and submit a disavow file to Google. It has everything you need to safeguard your website against spammy links in one convenient location.
The Audit of Backlinks tool lists all your links and assigns a Toxic Score level between 0-100 (the higher, the more presumed toxic by the tool). Below is an example of what that looks like, with our links covered, in case our competitor is reading ?.
If you’re certain a link is harmful, click the blue “Delete” button and then pick “To Disavow.” The domain will now be moved to the disavow section. The domains may then be exported to a.txt file and submitted to Google’s Disavow Tool.
Before disavowing a domain, be sure it’s not hazardous. Disavowing harmless, high-quality links may have a significant negative impact on your SEO results. If you’re unsure, leave them alone or seek expert help.
Analyzer of Content
A widespread fallacy about SEO and Material Marketing is that you must produce content on a continual basis, much like a Ford assembly line for blogs.
While yes, a consistent and regular content creation plan is beneficial to your website’s SEO, just like link building, quality is important to consider in addition to quantity. So, instead of wasting your time writing blog after blog that no one is reading, focus on your existing content with the Analyzer of Content tool.
The Analyzer of Content tool tells you how your content is performing both on and off your site. The tool assesses and measures social shares, backlinks, keyword rankings, and even Google Analytics data.
This tool, however, is more than simply a metric collector; it’s also a collaborative workflow channel. Choose one of the blogs that the program has assessed to begin improving your content. A pop-up window will emerge with the content and metadata.
You may use the tool to designate which regions need to be rewritten or erased, as well as to create a custom job. You may invite other members of your team (who have SEMrush accounts), make notes, and monitor your efforts in terms of cooperation.
Auditing and improving all of the content on your site can seem like a monumental and non-practical task, but the Analyzer of Content tool makes the process much more manageable and easier to measure.
Tools for Competitive Research
Competitive research is essential for executing a successful SEO strategy, particularly in a head-to-head battle. To improve your reach, visibility, and overall success, you must consider not just your own performance but also the performance of your competitors.
SEMrush offers a slew of helpful competitor research tools. Aside from the Topic Exploration tool mentioned previously, two of my favorite tools are the Keyword Gap and Backlink Gap Analysis tools.
Gap in Keywords:
The Keyword Gap Analysis tool compares keyword ranking performance for up to five rivals, highlighting similarities and variances. This tool gives you insight into the disparity in ranking performance for certain queries, as well as other keywords that your rivals are ranking for but you aren’t.
For instance, these are some of the terms that our competition ranks for but that we do not:
With this information, we can improve existing material or suggest new content to help bridge the gap.
The Backlink Gap Analysis tool, like the Keyword Gap tool, examines backlink profiles of up to five competing websites at simultaneously. You’ll obtain a list of domains that connect to your rivals’ websites but not to your own. This aids in the development of a focused plan for capturing domains that your opponent currently owns in order to narrow the gap and level the playing field.
We obtained a list of domains connecting to them rather than us after entering our domain and our competitor’s domain into the tool and choosing our domain in the “Prospects for Domain” drop-down.
Some of them are simple to get rid of (their main domain and other sites they are affiliated with). However, after the list has been cleaned up, we may begin an outreach campaign to earn connections from these websites.
Use both of these techniques to determine where you or your customer falls short of the competition and devise a focused plan to not only close the gap, but also to gain a competitive advantage.
Finally, to summarize
SEMrush is an excellent tool for companies and organizations wanting to enhance their SEO. They provide a wealth of features and knowledge to assist you in developing a multi-pronged, integrated approach.
If you’re new to SEMrush or simply want to brush up on your knowledge and skills with their tools, they provide a fantastic Academy to assist you get started.
