The Webinomy keyword difficulty tool is now more accurate than any other tool on the market. With such accuracy, even low-volume keywords will be actionable for marketers and help them increase their search engine rankings or click through rates.
The “keyword difficulty meaning” is now more accurate than any other tool. Webinomy has a new keyword difficulty tool that is more accurate than the others.
We refreshed the statistic in the spring of 2021 after updating the method that estimates a search term’s keyword difficulty.
These adjustments were done to ensure that Webinomy’s keyword research software is the best it can be.
Across all of our regional databases, the score is now more accurate for all sorts of terms.
Webinomy currently gives considerably more consistency and accuracy than any other SEO tool, especially for lower volume keywords, lower competition keywords, and local keywords in less-populated nations and areas.
I checked out the new KD ratings for our keywords, and they’re fantastic! They’re a lot more precise now.

What is Webinomy Keyword Difficulty, and how does it work?
Phrase Difficulty (KD) is a statistic that indicates how much SEO work it will take to rank a page organically in Google’s top 10 results for a certain keyword.
You may utilize KD percent to plan out and prioritize your SEO operations.
Finding long-tail keywords and low-hanging fruit for your campaigns may be as simple as looking for terms with low KD percent scores.
The greater the percentage, the tougher the competition and the more effort you’ll have to put in before seeing returns.
Consider the following two keywords for an SEO campaign:
Keyword A, which has a KD of 40%, and keyword B, which has a KD of 80%.
You have a greater chance of ranking on the first page if you concentrate on keyword A. Attempting to rank for keyword B will be more difficult and time consuming.
This proportion is calculated based on the competitive aspects that influence the complexity of SEO, which we’ll discuss later in this piece.

In Webinomy, where is Keyword Difficulty?
Go to Term Overview and type the keyword into the search field to get the keyword difficulty of any keyword. Locate the keyword difficulty widget after that.
We can see that “seo” has an 88 percent rating in the table below.
Any Webinomy report with keywords will additionally include a column labelled KD percent. These columns may be filtered or sorted to help you identify the finest options.
The following is a complete collection of Webinomy reports that show keyword difficulty:
Do you need to find KD scores for a set of keywords?
The Keyword Overview allows you to examine up to 100 keywords at once.
To focus on a certain range of difficulty, you may filter any of our keyword data by KD percent range.
We may not compute KD percent until a client requests it for extremely low volume terms with minimal consumer interest. Simply add your term to a list in the Keyword Manager and then look for the refresh metrics option.
You should see a live computation of this keyword’s KD score, as well as other metrics like click potential and SERP Features, after pressing this refresh button.
Competitive Density vs. Keyword Difficulty
One thing to keep in mind is that keyword difficulty should not be confused with keyword competitiveness.
Both measures evaluate how difficult it is to target a term; nonetheless,
- The Keyword Difficulty Percentage (KD%) indicates how tough it is to rank in organic search (SEO)
- Competitive density (Com.) is a metric that indicates how challenging it is to rank in sponsored search (PPC).
The advertisers we observe running PPC advertisements on the SERPs are used to calculate competitive density.
What is a Good Difficulty Score for Keywords?
We can now classify the score into six primary buckets thanks to the new method. The first three are doable and provide excellent prospects for new locations, but the next three are more challenging.
- 0-14 = Very simple. These are the ideal possibilities to begin ranking new websites on Google without backlinks as soon as feasible.
- 15-29 = Simple. These keywords have a lot of competition, but they’re still doable to rank for if you’re just getting started. To rank for them, you’ll need high-quality content that focuses on the goal of the term.
- 30-49 years old = Possibility. There’s a little more competition now. You’ll need material that’s well-structured and distinctive, as well as content that’s optimized for your keywords.
The top three buckets will take more work to rank, but they are still possible to achieve over time.
- Difficulty level: 50-69. To compete here, you’ll need some backlinks in addition to your well-structured, informative, and optimized content.
- 70-84 = Difficult. There will be much more competition. To rank your well-optimized and useful content among the top sites, you’ll need to put in more work in terms of obtaining higher authority referring domains for these keywords.
- 85-100 = Extremely difficult. These are the most difficult keywords to rank for, particularly for a fresh website. To rank and get traffic, they will need a lot of on-page SEO, link building, and content marketing activities.
The calculation that takes into account the median # of backlinks & Authority Score PLUS the relative weight of the links really helps nail down a more precise score. Thanks for putting the time and effort into this.

How to Use Difficulty as a Keyword
When creating search campaigns around keywords, the complexity of the terms should be taken into account.
You may apply a KD filter to any report on Webinomy to locate the finest chances for you. This may be useful in a variety of situations.
Consider the following scenario:
- Use it to locate low-competition keywords for your keyword list when creating a new campaign.
- Run a Keyword Gap study as part of your competitive analysis to find terms in your competitor’s SEO plan that might be suitable targets for you.
- Examine an existing site and prioritize keywords for SEO vs. PPC.
- For faster SEO victories, prioritize long-tail keywords and low-hanging fruit.
- Remove terms with a high KD percent that will waste your time and money.
- Instead of/in addition to SEO, use PPC to target the more challenging keywords.
What is the Webinomy Difficulty Formula for Keywords?
On Webinomy, the new method for Keyword Difficulty may be broken down into three phases.
The first step is to examine the SERP.
First, we assess the quality of the top ten ranking sites on Google’s search engine results page (SERP). You’ll need to know how powerful your competition’s SEO is if you wish to outrank them.
We look at the number of referring domains going to each page, as well as the ratio of follow/nofollow links and the domains’ total Authority Score.
The median value of each is then determined and used in the calculation.
Avoiding exaggerated keyword difficulty ratings by considering the median values among the top ten will help you avoid becoming discouraged.
If a term has one really powerful page placed #1 on the SERP but the rest of the results aren’t as strong, you may still compete and earn traffic from a top-3 slot.
Step two is to examine the keyword.
The keyword’s search traffic, word count, SERP Features, whether it’s branded or not, and a few other criteria are examined next.
These variables are given varied weights depending on how much they are expected to influence the difficulty of ranking on the first page.
These factors (together with the amount of weight they carry) are:

Step 3: Assessing everything in terms of nation.
Finally, after calculating KD percent for a term, we’ll weight the score according to the geographic database it’s in. In less populous nations, this helps us prevent outliers and inflated / deflated ratings.
Methodology
Our data scientists and engineers conducted significant study into patterns of SERP movement across over 100,000 terms in our database to influence the improvements to our methodology.
We then evaluated the volatility and fluctuation of SERPs to determine which were the most challenging to break into the top page using SEO.
Then, for each term, we looked for patterns and correlations between 100+ factors and utilized just the most essential ones.
As a consequence, we narrowed down the list of factors to the most essential ones and estimated their relative importance above.
We’ve had our KD metric for nearly 7 years, and our staff has spent that time listening to customer input. As a result, we were able to discover a method to enhance this measure even further so that it is more accurate for your requirements. Our development team spent over 4,500 hours researching and re-formulating this measure over the last six months. We took into account a number of factors, including rating difficulty and geographic location. We can now confidently state that our new algorithm produces the most accurate keyword difficulty score available. We even conducted research to back up our claims. Thank you for putting your faith in us, and please send your comments to [email protected] at any time.

Why is Webinomy’s Keyword Difficulty Software the Best?
Other SEO tools provide a variety of comparable keyword metrics, but we feel our KD algorithm is the most precise and consistent.
What evidence do we have for this?
Our methodology is more robust and takes into account a far larger number of variables than any other statistic.
This is especially important in the modern SEO era where Instantaneous responses, knowledge graphs, and other SERP features by Google are adding nuance to each and every SERP.
Each nation is weighted differently in our algorithm. This implies that while calculating the KD percent, we take into account the size and breadth of websites as well as online traffic in each nation.
Without taking these characteristics into account, a term like “google” may have a KD score of 99 percent in the United States but only 60 percent in a less populous nation like Finland.
In actuality, ranking a website for the term “google” in Finland would be difficult, therefore we had to make sure our method accounted for this.
The new algorithm takes into consideration the size of a nation and the amount of websites it has, resulting in more accurate and consistent results across countries.
As a result, we can confidently assert that we have the most effective keyword difficulty tool for both local and worldwide SEO study.
Based on the difficulties of actually ranking for a specific term, the new and updated @semrush KD measure seems to be more realistic. I studied it using websites I’d rated and calculated my effort-to-rank ratio. Greater SV isn’t usually equated with higher KD. Excellent job!

Use Case Keyword Difficulty
After we contacted Cristian Drucioc of Mention.com to compare the new and old scores, he sent us this testimonial.
Last year, Cristian worked on a project on the “optimal time to publish on social media” and came up with a list of keywords.
This was useful since he had the previous KD’s history and was able to export it to compare with the new KD and make some comparisons.
Compared to the earlier version, he saw that there were no more 0 KD ratings, and the higher scores for phrases he was targeting lined up with his expertise optimizing for them. His exact words were:
- In comparison to the previous edition, there are no more 0 KD scores. In the previous edition, it was either 70-79 or 0. Because there are no more 0’s, the average KD makes more sense. That’s fantastic.
- I’ve got a lot of keywords for “best time to publish on” +twitter +day AND +facebook +day AND +linkedin +day. According to my blog post experience, the identical information connected to Twitter will rank easier than Facebook or Instagram. That seems to be the case, according to the latest KD. Overall, I like the new KD more than the prior one, which I never used.
Difficulty is a new keyword! Thank you for this MEANINGFUL KD percent, @semrush.
WordPress SEO Consultant, Peter Meade
We conducted a comparison test between our measure and four other keyword research tools to verify that our score is the most accurate on the market (Ahrefs, Mangools, Serpstat, and Moz).
We came at the following findings as a result of our research:
- Because it has the most accurate connections with backlink profile strength and keyword characteristics, Webinomy’s KD is the most accurate on the market.
- Webinomy’s KD works well in a variety of environments and databases.
- The KD from Webinomy is particularly good for long-tail and local keywords.
- Long-tail and regional keywords showed relatively low values across our rivals.
- Our rivals’ KD ratings were either lower or non-existent, particularly in nations with smaller backlink profiles than the United States.
Methodology for Data Analysis:
- We collected 30,000 keywords with a broad and equal range of high, medium, and low volume, CPC, and word length in the following four areas (US, DE, IT, FI).
- These 120,000 keywords’ keyword difficulty scores were gathered from Ahrefs, Mangools, Serpstat, and Webinomy.
- Looking in the US database, we analyzed the correlations between each KD score and four factors that contribute to the difficulty of SEO (The number of searches, keyword word count, Authority Score, and referring domains).
- For the whole list of terms, we analyzed how KD scores compared between Webinomy and our rivals in all four regional databases.
Correlations with Important SEO Elements
To find dependencies, we used a collection of keywords and watched how one parameter behaved in relation to the other.
For example, we predicted that when volume increased, KD would increase as well, implying that the higher the correlation, the more accurate KD would be.
Volume-related correlations (US)
Correlations with the number of words (US)
Per URL, correlations with referring domains (US)
Correlations between Authority Score and Other Factors (US)
We can observe from the graph above that Moz KD has a better correlation with Authority Score than the others. This might imply that Moz KD is heavily reliant on the strength of a domain’s top 10 results.
While the URL itself might be poor, a better domain at the top leads to a large increase in KD. This may result in a scenario where, for example, an unpopular Amazon store rose to the top, causing KD to skyrocket.
Webinomy KD in comparison to competition (US)
Here, we looked at how well our rivals’ KD scores matched Webinomy’s KD scores.
As you can see, several of our rivals’ scores were far lower than our new score.
All of the borderline values, where the plotted points tip off at the top and bottom of the Y axis, are highlighted. These points show that one of our competitors reported a score of 0 (bottom of Y axis) or 100 (top of Y axis) whereas we submitted a real score.
This suggests that employing keyword difficulty in Webinomy yields more possibilities than using any other method.
Ahrefs, Mangools, Moz, and Serpstat: What We Learned
Many keywords in Ahrefs have KD values between 0 and 100. According to the findings, Ahrefs displays a 0 KD for terms that are associated with modest backlink profiles across rivals.
Ahrefs KD will be low if a term is popular and tough to optimize for, yet rivals have poor backlink profiles.
The following are some keyword samples where Ahrefs reported KD=0 (US):
coffee shops near me, home goods near me, csl bonus, vehicle alignment near me, smoothies near me, data analyst pay, coffee shops near me
These are generally high-volume, transactional-intent keywords that should have a higher KD.
Overall, Ahrefs KD is appropriate for the demands of a strong domain when the aim is to find keywords where rivals’ backlink profiles are simply poor.
Ahrefs KD will not give correct insights for any other purpose. This is less noticeable in the United States, since backlink profiles tend to be bigger. However, when we look at smaller nations and datasets, the Ahrefs KD anomalies become more apparent.
For example, Ahrefs reports a very low KD for various high-volume searches in Germany:
