World data trends 2020 by Webinomy

Webinomy reveals how the world is changing in 2020 and beyond, including a focus on data trends. The company provides cutting-edge market insights for companies to stay ahead of the curve.

The “google mobility report 2020” is a global study that looks at the data trends of the world in 2020. The report will give you an insight into what to expect for this upcoming year.

On January 1, the globe welcomed the start of a new decade, with high hopes for the next year. While the year 2020 has proved to be much more difficult than anticipated, people all around the world have turned to their favorite resource – the internet — seeking answers, consolation, and direction for what comes next.

Though the coronavirus has been on everyone’s mind (and, understandably, in their search history), this year has also seen communities come together for social equality, communities overcome natural disasters, and, of course, the debut of major pop-culture milestones, demonstrating that the world was gripped by many topics this past year.

Abbreviation The Search Volume phrase is abbreviated as “SV.” The average number of times a certain search query is typed on a search engine each month is known as search volume. In 2020, the average (average) monthly SV will be calculated by dividing all monthly Google search volumes by the number of months studied. Max SV in the year 2020 – the maximum monthly search volume figure for the whole year of 2020. The most significant growth in SV in 2020 will be the biggest percent increase in monthly searches. YoY (year over year) growth refers to the increase in the number of internet searches or website visitors from 2020 to 2019. Monthly traffic average is the number of visitors to a website on a monthly basis.

Given the pandemic’s worldwide effect, it’s no wonder that “COVID-19” has outperformed all other keyword searches this year, with almost 60 million average monthly searches since January 2020 and a peak high of 101 million in March.

The Black Lives Matters campaign accounted for 20% of the most popular searches. In May 2020, the most popular keyword search was “George Floyd,” which had a 41.3 million percent increase in enquiries.

Google Doodles accounted for over a quarter of the top trending keywords, with searches for illustrator Sir John Tenniel, Turkish astrophysicist Dilhan Eryurt, Olympic athlete Vicki Draves, and civil rights activist Felicitaz Mendez all increasing significantly after their respective Doodles were released in February, July, August, and September, respectively.

The top 10 keywords are ranked by the monthly search volume growth rate, which is calculated by dividing the greatest search volume in the 2020 year by the lowest search volume in the 2020 year. To build this top list, we focused on terms with larger search volumes in order to provide a more accurate image of trending phrases.

Webinomy examined all articles published in 2020 on the BBC and CNN news sites and discovered five issues that received significant media attention. Coronavirus was a major news item this year, outperforming the second-most-covered issue — the US election — with 66 percent more average keyword mentions than the second-most-covered topic.

Major political events and elections account for 40% of hot news items, with the remaining 30% concentrating on catastrophes that drew worldwide attention. As the globe looks beyond itself and into a new age of space exploration, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon mission topped the list as a good news item.

While the Champions League led the list for maximum search traffic in 2020, tennis emerged as the world’s favorite sport to watch this year, with big events accounting for 60% of the top five. The fact that major basketball, baseball, and hockey leagues postponed their seasons to assist limit the spread of COVID-19 may have influenced the results.

As individuals had fewer reasons to leave the comfort of their homes in 2020, fashion trends shifted dramatically, with comfort or casual clothing accounting for 85 percent of the most sought-after fashion goods.

By far the most popular goods were “gloves,” which had a 129 percent spike in average searches year over year, and “sweatpants,” which saw a 119 percent increase. While the rise in searches for sweatpants may be linked to efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19, it also indicates that the world has embraced a more casual work-from-home lifestyle — after all, virtual business meetings only require your visible top half to look professional, leaving your hidden bottom half free to stay comfortable.

With the bulk of brick-and-mortar stores closing this year, ecommerce skills have become more critical than ever. This was particularly true in the fashion business, where pivoting to offer customers with the things they want — and fast — was critical. With just about 147 million average monthly website visitors in 2020, Nike was a brand champion as the most visited website.

Despite the fact that the world is slowing down, quick fashion websites accounted for 70% of the most popular fashion ecommerce sites this year.

Netflix is still the most popular streaming provider this year, and by a wide margin. The average monthly search traffic for “Netflix” was 671 percent greater than the second largest streaming provider, Amazon Prime Video, which had just under 18 million average monthly searches.

With the globe imposing social distance, it’s no surprise that average search traffic for all streaming services increased by 72 percent between February and March 2020. This year, Disney+ witnessed the most growth, with a 233 percent gain between February and March — this spike is likely due to the platform’s introduction in India with Disney+ Hotstar.

It’s also unsurprising that more individuals are turning to their televisions for amusement while they’re alone, but what are they watching? The Queen’s Gambit won the top rank for the most popular TV series, with a 58 percent larger increase in average monthly searches than the second-most popular series, Matchmaking in India.

Solidifying its reign as the top streaming service, Netflix topped the trending series list as well, with Netflix Originals accounting for 73% of the top programs.

50 percent of the year’s top trending albums were published after the globe was put under lockdown in mid-March, proving that even a pandemic can’t stop the music. J Balvin released Colores only two days before Colombia announced additional limits to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, offering his fans a new smash album to dance to at home. Colores led the search rankings in March, with 1.5 million monthly searches.

After its debut in July, Taylor Swift’s surprise album Folklore tied for second place in monthly search traffic with Selena Gomez’s Rare, with 1.2 million searches. According to the maximum monthly search traffic in 2020, The Weeknd’s album After Hours was the third most sought album.

Despite having a peak search volume of just over half a million, K-pop superstar BTS’s Map of the Soul 7 had the highest average monthly search traffic in 2020, which was about 20% more than the next leading release on the top list. With the song “Dynamite,” the group became the first K-pop group to reach the US Billboard Top 100 charts and received a Grammy nomination (the first-ever nomination for a K-pop group!).

Positions, Ariana Grande’s newest album, is also expected to experience significant increase in the new year, with 550,000 monthly searches since its release in October. Positions has witnessed consistent increase with BLACKPINK’s much-anticipated [THE ALBUM], with a maximum of 550,000 monthly searches.

Except for one, all of the games were published in 2020. Among Us was released in 2018, but it quickly gained popularity as a wonderful social team game. 90% of all top popular games have (or will have) online multiplayer gaming, making them ideal for people who want to remain connected while socially distancing themselves. Commercials have gotten more sophisticated than ever to attract consumer attention as more people flock to streaming services to binge-watch content. Unsurprisingly, 60 percent of the world’s greatest advertisements were shown during Super Bowl LIV on February 2, 2020 – the ideal venue for both sports and marketing activities.

Rocket Mortgage’s Super Bowl advertisement starring actor Jason Momoa was the most-searched-for ad of the year, with a total of 609,500 monthly searches — 203 percent more than any other Commercial — demonstrating that shock value may help sell.

One of the most well-known top Commercials was first shown in 2019, although it gained worldwide notice at the start of the year. Given the backlash it sparked following its premiere, the “Peloton advertisement” topped the most-searched-for list in 2020, even inspiring a counterattack ad from actor Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin company.

The popularity of ecommerce increased in 2020, with searches for “purchase online” almost tripling in March. As more people switched to digital shopping carts, some began to shop smarter with the aid of technology, taking advantage of cyber-deals by timing their purchases to coincide with major discount days like Black Friday, or by using coupon or cash-back retailers like Rakuten, which saw a 19 percent increase in monthly traffic year over year.

Despite protests against the global retail website behemoth, online shoppers this year prioritized convenience, value, and immediate delivery — Amazon.com was named the top ecommerce website in 2020, with over 3.6 billion average monthly website visits (263 percent more than the next-best site, eBay.com), and a 24 percent increase in traffic over 2019.

The worldwide effect of the coronavirus impacted much more than the health of its population; economic shifts are still occurring as nations adapt, rebuild, and recover. Investments will help decide which markets will be robust enough to withstand COVID-19’s demands and which will not.

Stocks remain the most popular investment choice, with a 335 percent greater average monthly search traffic than searches for “real estate investment.” Currency continues to be a major topic of interest, accounting for 20% of the top ten investments, with 43,978 and 30,990 monthly average searches for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, respectively.

The post-pandemic ‘new consumer’ will define new market realities as financial services evolve with the global economy. Whether investors were looking to purchase or sell this year — particularly considering the enormous obstacles that transport businesses like Boeing and American Airlines experienced during the epidemic — identifying which stocks individuals are looking for will be critical in determining what movements are on the horizon.

Given the digital revolution expected in 2020, tech stocks remain a popular investment this year, with 70% of the most-searched-for stocks being tied to tech goods, services, and platforms. With 90 percent greater average monthly search volumes than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is, the next-leading search, Tesla grabs the top place. With just over 2.2 million average monthly searches, searches for “Moderna” stock squeaked into the top 10, demonstrating that investors are eager to tap into the market demand for COVID-19 vaccinations.

With searches for “what stocks to purchase when the market crashes?” savvy investors were quick to attempt to take advantage of the pandemic’s catastrophic economic effect. In March 2020, the increase will be 74,000%.

If everything else fails, turn to Google. The worldwide populace is weary by the uncertainties of 2020 and impatient for the end of pandemic limitations, economic instability, and social isolation. The number of monthly searches for “how long till 2020 ends?” increased from zero to 201,000 in April 2020, presumably showing that people were sick of the epidemic from the start.

Some others even began a countdown, asking “how many weeks are left in 2020?” on a weekly basis. growing from zero to 40,500 in April, rapidly climbing to a peak of 74,000 in August – an 83 percent increase over the previous year’s “how many weeks are remaining in 2019?”
